GOVERNORS END MEETING IN ABUJA, FAIL TO REACH AGREEMENT ON CONTROVERSIAL TAX REFORM BILLS

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) meeting in Abuja ended without a communiqué, sparking speculation about the discussions.

Sources revealed that the governors failed to reach an agreement on the contentious tax reform bills presented by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly.

The new tax bills have been met with widespread criticism and opposition from many, including 19 northern governors who rejected sections of the bills and called for their withdrawal. The National Economic Council (NEC) also rejected the bills.

The meeting, attended by 15 governors, mostly from the All Progressives Congress (APC), began at 10 p.m. and ended at 11 p.m.

Governors Alex Otti of Abia State and Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State were also in attendance.

Notably, the governors deviated from their usual practice of addressing the media after the meeting.
