Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, appeared to have momentarily dozed off during the national summit of All Opposition Political Party Leaders in Ibadan, Oyo state, on Saturday.

In a photo from the event, Atiku was seated among other participants with his eyes closed while proceedings were ongoing.

The summit brought together key stakeholders from opposition political parties to deliberate on national issues and political strategies.

Other participants seated around him appeared attentive, suggesting the session was in progress at the time the moment was captured.

Long political gatherings are often characterised by extended hours of speeches and deliberations, which can lead to visible fatigue among attendees.

The image has since circulated online, drawing mixed reactions on social media.

Meanwhile, opposition political parties announced plans to present a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election at the event.

The parties include the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chaired by Kabiru Turaki, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

In a communiqué issued at the end of the summit, the parties said they would resist all “machinations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to foist a one-party state on Nigeria”.

“That despite the onslaughts and manoeuvrings of the ruling party, the APC, to impose President Bola Tinubu as the sole Presidential candidate in 2027, we shall field candidates and contest the 2027 Presidential and other elections,” the communiqué reads.

“That we shall work towards fielding one Presidential Candidate for the 2027 elections, which shall be agreed and supported by all participating opposition parties to rescue our nation and her long-suffering masses.”
