Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has pledged lifelong support for the family of Ifeanyi Nwolie, an NDC member shot dead during a party political activity allegedly marred by violence in Enugu State on October 10, 2026…
..
Obi made the pledge on Thursday after arriving at the Enugu airport from the United Kingdom to attend Nwolie’s funeral in his hometown of Afa, Udi Local Government Area of the state.

The former Anambra State governor said he arrived at Abuja airport at 5:30 a.m. before connecting to a 7 a.m. flight to Enugu to attend the burial.

He described Nwolie’s death as a painful reminder of the human cost of Nigeria’s toxic political environment.

Obi also disclosed that he had promised the deceased’s mother that he would support her, pledging to take the place of her late son in providing assistance.

“My humble pledge to the mother is that God Almighty, whom it pleased to bring Ifeanyi home, has also given her another son in me to support her as Ifeanyi used to,” Obi said.

The NDC candidate called on politicians contesting at the federal, state and local government levels in the 2027 general elections to reject violence, ethnic division and religious bigotry.

He urged candidates to focus their campaigns on policies and issues capable of improving the country, stressing that Nigerians must be able to participate in the democratic process without fear.

“Democracy thrives when citizens can freely express their political choices and participate in the electoral process without fear. The process through which we attain public office is more important than the office itself,” he said.

Obi further warned that undermining the rule of law could lead to disorder and anarchy, calling for collective efforts to rebuild a country where human life is valued above political ambition.

“We must work together to rebuild and restore a Nigeria where human life is valued above political ambition, and where every citizen can exercise their democratic rights in peace and safety,” he added.
