FCT Lawmaker, Senator Ireti Kingibe has raised concerns over Nigeria’s new tax law, claiming that legislation requiring Nigerians to pay 25 per cent of their earnings as tax has already been passed and will affect citizens under the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government in 2027.
Kingibe made the remarks in a video circulating online, warning Nigerians about the implications of the tax policy and what she described as a looming financial burden on citizens.
The senator, an opposition figure previously associated with the Labour Party and now linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), suggested that the timing of the tax policy was significant, with the 2027 general elections approaching.
Her remarks have raised questions about the tax burden Nigerians could face as the country heads towards another election cycle, particularly amid concerns over the rising cost of living, declining purchasing power and the difficulty many households face in meeting their basic needs.
