Can they show us the debt as it stood on the day Peter Obi left office in March 17, 2014? And Not the balance in 2026. Not what the State still owes today. Not what the debt is worth in today’s naira.
Show us what Peter Obi actually left behind in 2014.
The government says eight external loans were associated with Obi’s administration and that their outstanding balance is now $92.35 million, which it converts to about ₦127.4 billion using the current exchange rate.
Can Soludo and Law Mefor show us how much was the outstanding on March 17, 2014? How much had already been repaid before Obi left?
Which of those loans were actually contracted by Peter Obi?
Which ones were inherited?
How much was drawn from each facility?
How much was repaid by Obi?
How much was subsequently repaid by Obiano?
How much has Soludo’s government repaid?
Put the figures there.
Line by line.
Because ₦127.4 billion in 2026 is not automatically ₦127.4 billion that Peter Obi left behind in 2014.
Then comes the funniest part.
How can Soludo accuses Peter Obi of spending $4.05 billion in eight years and convert it to ₦5.4 trillion at today’s exchange rate.
Interesting.
He gave you:
The amount.
The bank.
The branch.
The account number.
The date.
And then he said, essentially:
If you can prove me wrong, I will stop campaigning.
Soludo says it obtained a certified statement of that exact account and that the money was never there.
Now we’re asking Soludo to please
PUBLISH THE STATEMENT.
Not a press release.
Not a government interpretation of the statement.
The statement itself.
Let Nigerians see the account number.
Let Nigerians see the relevant transactions.
Let Nigerians see the balance around March 17, 2014.
If Peter Obi is lying, this should be the easiest political knockout in Nigeria’s history.
Just publish the bank statement.
Then there are the alleged salary, pension and gratuity arrears.
The government says Obi owed people.
Fine.
Who?
How much?
For what period?
When did each liability arise?
How much existed when Obi took office?
How much did he inherit?
How much did he pay?
How much remained on March 17, 2014?
And how much of the ₦22 billion the present government says it has paid actually originated under Obi?
Because saying an arrear existed during Obi’s tenure is not the same thing as proving Obi created the liability.
And then there are the documents themselves.
If documents released as evidence contain clerical errors, correct them.
Explain them.
Show the original.
Show the corrected version.
Show us whether the error changes anything material.
Because when you are accusing somebody of lying about billions of naira, your own documents should not be asking the public to trust your arithmetic while you ask them not to trust his.
And this is what I find most interesting.
Peter Obi says he left over ₦75 billion in savings/investments.
The government says:
Where are the records?
Fair question.
But the same question goes back to the government:
Where are YOUR records?
Where is the March 17, 2014 debt position?
Where is the loan-by-loan reconciliation?
Where is the certified bank statement?
Where is the transaction history?
Where is the breakdown of inherited liabilities by administration?
Where is the evidence showing precisely what Peter Obi owed on the day he handed over?
Because this is not a difficult mathematical problem.
It is an accounting problem.
And accounting has records.
Peter Obi has put specific figures and an account number on the table.
The Anambra State Government has put a press statement and its interpretation of documents on the table.
I know which one I want to see next.
Bring out the records.
Bring out the bank statement.
Bring out the March 2014 debt balance.
Bring out the loan schedules.
Bring out the payment records.
Bring out the handover documents.
Then let Nigerians look at them.
Because if Peter Obi is lying, don’t write another press release.
PROVE HIM WRONG.
The numbers are there.
The accounts are there.
The banks are there.
The records are there.
Show us.
