
The Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) has announced that the August 2026 Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The exercise will coincide with the Enugu International Marathon 2026, necessitating a general restriction of movement of persons and vehicles along streets and areas designated as routes for the marathon during the sanitation period.
The government, in a statement issued by the Managing Director of the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA), Richard Onaga, said the affected routes include Abakaliki Road; Uduma Street, New Haven; Okpara Square, Independence Layout; Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway; Chief Z. C. Obi Link Road; Mgbemene Street/CIC Road; Agbani Road, Awkunanaw; Zik Avenue; Nza Street; Edozie Street; Uwani; NTA Road, Independence Layout; Kenyatta Street, Uwani; Ogui Road; Mkpotiti Road; Anang Road, New Layout; Mbanefo Street; Odoeze Street, New Layout; Edward Nnaji Street; and Presidential Road.
The restriction will also apply to other designated routes within the Enugu metropolis being used for the Enugu International Marathon.
ESWAMA urged all residents to participate actively in the sanitation exercise and support efforts aimed at maintaining a clean, healthy, safe and environmentally sustainable Enugu State.
The authority further advised residents to note that the disposal of waste at designated collection points will commence from 1:00 pm, after the conclusion of the International Marathon.
It therefore urged residents to keep their waste safely until the designated disposal period, stressing the need for compliance with the sanitation arrangements.
