Popular Nigerian cleric, Chukwuemeka Cyril Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has expressed disappointment in Pastor Enoch Adeboye and other Nigerian religious leaders, saying pastors have a responsibility to speak against bad governance rather than remain silent.

Odumeje made the remarks in a video shared on social media, where he criticised the country’s political leadership and accused the clergy of failing to hold public office holders accountable despite the worsening hardship faced by Nigerians.

According to the outspoken preacher, genuine pastors should rebuke governments that fail the people instead of appearing to benefit from or remain indifferent to poor governance.

“I don’t want to talk about Pastor Adeboye because do you know what it means to be a pastor? A pastor should rebuke a bad government; they don’t benefit from it. I’m disappointed with our own set of pastors. My generation feels like a failure,” he said.

Odumeje further accused politicians of mismanaging the nation’s resources while ordinary Nigerians continue to struggle under difficult economic conditions.

He lamented that public funds are being used to educate politicians’ children and relatives abroad instead of improving the welfare of citizens and strengthening public institutions at home.

“Our politicians are lavishing our resources, yet we keep praising them with the same resources we sent them to manage for us. Every politician is there to represent the citizens, serve the people, and remain accountable to them,” he stated.

The cleric also urged Nigerians to become more aware of their constitutional rights, arguing that citizens have continued to tolerate poor leadership and abuse of public trust.

Odumeje further referenced the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, claiming that individuals who speak against the political establishment often become targets of state action.

His comments have since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating the role of religious leaders in demanding accountability from political office holders and speaking out against poor governance.
