There were palpable concern and anxiety on Wednesday at the Eagle Square in Abuja President Bola Ahmed Tinubu landed on the floor while attempting to mount the rostrum in the midst of several aides and security personnel.
The president arrived at the Eagles Square, in the Federal Capital Territory around 10 am for the Democracy Day celebration parade.
As Tinubu was about to mount the Presidential Parade Vehicle after alighting from his motorcade, he lost his balance, slipped and fell while climbing the stairs onto the platform.
However, Tinubu who wore a white native attire popularly known as agbada and his signature cap, struggled to save himself by holding on to the vehicle, but landed on the ground while his aides rushed to support him back to his feet.
Men of the Guards Brigade immediately rushed to his side to help him stand. He was accompanied to the venue of the event by his wife, Oluremi Tinubu.
Footage of the incident has since gone viral on social media. it can be recalled that the president had just given his independence day speech this morning shortly before the unfortunate occurrence.
The parade later continued as the president waved to the crowd while the vehicle slowly made its way through.
The national anthem was eventually recited after the president’s arrival to signal the commencement of the programme.
Present at the Democracy Day ceremony include Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Vice President of the country, Kashim Shettima, and the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio.
Thanks for carefully excluding Ndigbo from your list of exalted people in Nigeria on this their Democracy Day. It speaks volumes. “Let me people go” please! Enough.
