I’LL CONTINUE TO PAY WAGE AWARD UNTIL MINIMUM WAGE IS CONCLUDED – GOV MBAH

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has promised continuous payment of wage awards to state workers until committee on new minimum wage concludes its work.

The governor made the pledge during the Town Hall meeting with Enugu people on Saturday at the Old Government House, Enugu.

The governor began the payments of the wage award of between N10,000 and N25,000 to state workers last December to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

The town hall meeting was attended by representatives of the Civil Society Organisations, women, students, youth, business owners, traders, transport unions and others.

Mr Mbah said his government would prioritise workers’ welfare, adding that he would create values that would help workers to thrive.

“Until new minimum wage is concluded, we will continue to pay wage award,” he assured.

The governor who added that his administration inherited arrears of pension and gratuity of retired civil servants, explained that he did not waste time in clearing them.

“Today we are working seriously to clear that of primary school teachers and Local Government workers.

On education, Mr Mbah said his administration identified it as the strongest weapon to fight poverty, saying “this is why we are building SMART Schools across 260 wards which will be operational by September, 2025.

“Our children will now be using tablets to study and teachers smart boards to teach while the student would learn about artificial intelligence, robotics and others that will make them technological inclined,” he said.

The governor said that the government was building level two Primary Health Centres across the 260 wards to reduce infant and maternal mortality in the state.

Mr Mbah said that it had already awarded 30 contracts for the health centres and about to award 100 more.

On electricity, the governor disclosed that the state was working to generate and distribute electricity to provide power for homes and businesses in the state.

“Electricity being the major infrastructural requirement for private sector to thrive, we took advantage when the Federal Government removed it from exclusive list to concurrent list by establishing Enugu State Electricity Commission.

“There shall be no monopoly as people will be allowed to buy and sell electricity”Mr Mbah also pledged to design a programme to ensure students palliative and also sustain the state’s Scholarship Board.

I WOULD RATHER DIE THAN APPEAL TO WIKE OR TINUBU OVER ABUJA LAND – 84-YEAR-OLD WIDOW The widow of late Col. Paul Ogbebor, Mrs Rita Lori Ogbebor, has stated that she prefers to die than beg President Bola Tinubu or the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike over a land dispute in Abuja. Mrs Ogbebor made the declaration on Friday during a press conference in Abuja, in which she spoke about a demolition notice issued to the residents and management of Paullosa Nigeria Limited, an estate management company owned by her late husband. She alleged that Wike was only fourteen years old when her husband brought people to work on the land and contributed his quota to the development of Abuja. According to her, 42 years after, the FCT Minister now wants to take the land, demolish it and give it to someone named Chinda. The wife of the late military man said those who know her can appeal to the President on her behalf, but she’d rather die than make a personal appeal to Tinubu or Wike over the land dispute. “I am not saying the President should know me, but the people, the leaders, who surround and advise the President should know people like us, who oil the wheel of progress in this country. And when there is a problem like this, they should intervene, and if it is above them, they should take it to the president. “My husband was one of those who built Abuja; they gave him a piece of land to work as an engineer. He brought people from all over the world to work with him. Now, after 42 years, they want to demolish it and give it to Chinda? Who is Chinda? “If you take Chinda’s age today and the period we have been here, Chinda was only 14 years old. And so is Wike. Is that not belittling of me at the age of 84, to go and meet the president, ‘Mr. President, someone in my country is demolishing my house? No. I would rather die,” she said. Naija News reports the land in question, and others have attracted nationwide attention, which prompted the Senate to instruct Wike on Thursday to halt further demolitions until the details of the matter are considered. Wike has, however vowed to continue the demolition exercise, insisting that there are many land grabbers in Abuja.

NOBODY WITH HIS RIGHT SENSES WOULD QUARELL WITH WIKE – AKPABIO

NOBODY IN HIS RIGHT SENSES WOULD QUARELL WITH WIKE – AKPABIO Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as a man of peace. Wike has been heavily criticized over the ongoing demolition of structures in Abuja. Speaking on Friday at the Public Lecture and Book Launch organised to mark the birthday of Wike, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Akapbio said nobody in his senses would pick a quarrel with the minister. “I was discussing with one of my colleagues and I told him I do not know why a man will quarrel with Wike. If he shouts while we are sitting there, by the time I get to that door he has forgotten. “He will be the one to carry his phone and call me and say ‘when are you coming to the house for lunch?’ And he had forgotten that we quarreled and I will tell him, ‘after the quarrel’”, he said. Akpabio’s remarks intermittently drew laughter from the audience. On his part, Wike said he was not bothered about the criticism. He said: “For me, in life, what is important is, if you know what you want to do, and you know how you want to do it, then go ahead. One thing that I can assure all of you here is that we will continue to make you proud. “I will never be distracted. I will still be focused to achieve the results that Nigerians will know that Mr President means well. Yes, so many people have talked about criticism, I can assure you, it is even people who inform me that people are criticising me. “Frankly speaking, because I do not see them and I don’t hear them and I can not reply to them”. Wike, who said he was humbled by the crowd that identified with him, said he was satisfied with President Bola Tinubu’s support. He said the attacks were designed by his detractors, adding that the only way to silence the critics was to achieve results for public interest.
