BREAKING: NATIONAL GRID COLLAPSES AGAIN The National grid has suffered yet another collapse, plunging the county into another round of darkness. The collapse which happened around 11:28am, on Thursday, is the second this week and 10th in 2024.Breaking: National grid records another collapse two days after A check on Independent System Operator, an autonomous arm of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) showed all power plants connected to the grid didn’t produce any electricity around 12pm. The ISO’s website showed the generation plants produced an average of 2,323 megawatt of electricity around 11am but reading 0.00MW for 12pm. As of the time of filing this report, TCN is yet to state the reason for the collapse. Confirming the development, Jos Disco stated that the current outage being experienced within its franchise is a result of loss of power supply from the national grid. “The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this morning at about 11:28 hours of today, Thursday, 7th November 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders.” “We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored back to normalcy.”

The incident happened on Saturday and sympathisers and emergency workers are currently at the scene trying to get under the rubble. “People are under this rubble. It is a building under construction. We are calling on the government and televant agencies to come and rescue those who are trapped here,” a narrator in the video of the incident obtained by SaharaReporters said. In the first week of October, responders had rescued four people from a two-storey residential building, a section of which collapsed in Abuja. However, he finally honoured the EFCC’s invitation, accompanied by top politicians and APC bigwigs.According to sources, Bello’s appearance at the EFCC was the result of a negotiation between his camp and President Bola Tinubu’s camp, as the president aims to demonstrate his commitment to fighting corruption.Bello’s media office stated that he honoured the invitation after consulting with his family, legal team, and political allies, and that he has nothing to hide.It’s worth noting that Bello had previously resisted arrest and shunned multiple EFCC invitations, leading to a dramatic scene at his Abuja residence. The EFCC had obtained a warrant for his arrest, but his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, intervened to prevent the arrest.The development comes as Bello faces a 19-count charge of alleged money laundering, with his trial adjourned to September 25.The EFCC has said it is keen to prosecute Bello, with Chairman Ola Olukoyede personally inviting him for interrogation.In a statement by Ohiare Michael, Director of Yahaya Bello Media Office, on Wednesday, Yahaya Bello said the “decision (to appear before the EFCC) was made after due consultations with his family, legal team and political allies.According to him, he only sought enforcement of his fundamental human rights in order to ensure due process, adding that he is a respecter of the rule of law and constituted authority.Meanwhile speaking with SaharaReporters, top sources revealed that there is currently a lot of pressure on the EFCC to release the former governor after interrogation.Sources also told SaharaReporters that Bello had been hiding at the State House in Kogi and the state’s liaison office in Abuja.“Yahaya Bello is still under interrogation but the EFCC leadership is likely to release him, claiming they don’t want to detain him because of the earth tremor rocking Abuja,” one of the sources said.“There is a lot of pressure on the agency. The meeting followed the arrest and detention of its President, Joe Ajaero. Ajaero was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on his way to the United Kingdom, UK, for a meeting. The union demanded Ajaero’s “immediate and unconditional release” before 12 midnight today (Monday). The labour union also demanded the immediate reversal of the hike in the price of petrol to N617/Litre. The Nigerian Labour Congress said it has placed all its affiliates, state councils, civil society allies and the Nigerian populace on red alert. DSS TAKES OVER SERAP’S OFFICE IN ABUJA Men from the Department of State Services (DSS) have stormed the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP). Upon arrival at the office, DSS officers demanded to see the directors of the organization. The orientation camp for this batch is scheduled to begin on August 28, 2024, and will conclude on September 17, 2024.According to the announcement, some corps members assigned to Lagos will attend their orientation in Ogun and Osun states. Multiple sources, including state workers confirmed the development, describing the governor as a “man of his word.” Recall that President Bola Tinubu had signed the Minimum Wage bill into law in July, following a prolonged negotiation with organized labour. With many governors expressing concerns about their ability to pay the increased wage due to economic constraints, Governor Fintiri has become the first state governor aside from those in Lagos and Edo states to implement the new minimum wage. Lagos and Edo State government said their workers were already being paid a minimum of N70,000 monthly. While State workers in Adamawa are paid the minimum wage, local government workers are set to start receiving the increased salary in September.

The Ogun REC was said to have slumped and died in Abuja on Monday evening after he attended a meeting with other RECs at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters. Ijalaye had returned to his hotel room, when the tragic incident occurred. The meeting, according to Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC, focused on two off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States, and seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies. The REC, an Indigene of Ondo State was said to have participated actively during the meeting and was in good spirit before the death later in the evening. Ijalaye assumed the REC position in Ogun State in March 2022 following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State.
