The founding chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Chekwas Okorie, stated that Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s continuous political attacks on Peter Obi are driven by a personal vendetta.

Okorie outlined three specific “offences” from the past that explain why Soludo is after Peter Obi:

1• The 2009 Anambra Election Defeat: During the 2009 Anambra State gubernatorial election, Peter Obi (the incumbent under APGA) resoundingly defeated Soludo, who ran as the candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Okorie cited this electoral loss as Soludo’s first grievance against Obi.

2• The 2013 APGA Primary Disqualification: Ahead of the 2013 Anambra governorship election, Soludo was disqualified from contesting the APGA primary ticket. Okorie alleged that Soludo blamed Peter Obi—who was the governor and leader of the party at the time—for orchestrating his exclusion.Victor Umeh was the chairman of APGA then ,Prof Charles Soludo never forgave Peter Obi and Senator Victor Umeh, and for this reason he orchestrated Victor Umeh’s defeat at the APGAs primaries .

3• The 2023 Anambra Central Senatorial Primary Fallout: Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Senator Victor Umeh lost the APGA senatorial ticket. Umeh subsequently defected to the Labour Party and won the Anambra Central Senatorial seat. Okorie noted that Umeh’s victory was driven heavily by Peter Obi’s massive nationwide popularity, which further alienated Soludo as APGA lost ground in its home state.
According to Okorie, Soludo’s public support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 ambition is merely a cover to continue unleashing these personal grievances against Obi.
