A major crisis has erupted within the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a clash between former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma over a Federal High Court judgment on the disputed APC senatorial primary for Imo West Senatorial District.
Okorocha accused Uzodimma of never legitimately winning an election, alleging that the governor relies on a single person in a room to write election results.
The former governor made the allegation during a television interview while reacting to the disputed senatorial primary, which has become the subject of a legal battle between both camps.
Hope Uzodinma has never won an election in his life, from the one he got from fourth position.
He never won an election. What Hope does is just get one person in one room to write all results like he did in this primary.
The controversy followed a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja declaring Okorocha the valid winner of the May 18, 2026 APC primary for Imo West Senatorial District and ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise him as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The judgment deals a blow to Uzodinma’s camp, which has maintained that the governor remains the party’s flagbearer after being declared winner with more than 230,000 votes in the official results.
However, the APC and Uzodinma’s camp have rejected the ruling and indicated plans to challenge it in court.
The dispute has heightened tensions within the ruling party, with Okorocha’s allegations against Uzodinma further exposing the divisions between the two camps following the court judgment.
The crisis could destabilise Bola Tinubu’s campaign council in Imo State, where both Okorocha and Uzodinma are members, threatening unity and cooperation within the campaign structure.
. Their escalating feud could deepen divisions among APC loyalists, undermine coordination and grassroots mobilisation, and complicate efforts to rally party stakeholders behind Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
