The newly appointed Campaign Spokesperson for the Nigeria Democratic Congress National Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, has pledged to prioritise issues affecting Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general election.

Ikokwu, in a statement on Tuesday, said she appreciated her appointment and that the campaign would focus on clearly communicating its political vision, engaging voters honestly and addressing concerns about governance, the economy and the country’s future.

“I am deeply grateful to our principals, Excellencies Mr Peter Obi and Engr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in me. I do not take this responsibility lightly.

“The task ahead is enormous. Communicating a political vision, engaging a diverse and discerning electorate, and building a campaign that speaks meaningfully to the concerns of Nigerians will require clarity of purpose, discipline, strategic thinking and teamwork.

“We must communicate clearly, engage honestly and make the issues that matter to Nigerians central to the national conversation,” Ikokwu stated.

She opined that the campaign must move beyond conventional political slogans and offer Nigerians convincing reasons to believe in an alternative future.

Ikokwu also noted that the 2027 general election would have far-reaching implications for governance, the economy, national institutions and younger generations.

“Nigeria is at stake. The choices we make in 2027 will have profound implications for governance, our economy, our institutions and the future of the next generation,” she said.

She stressed that her appointment was part of a broader effort to shape the country’s future, not a personal achievement.

The campaign spokesperson expressed readiness to work with the party’s presidential hopefuls, leadership, campaign colleagues, the media and Nigerians across the country to advance the campaign’s objectives.

“The work ahead will not be easy, but with a clear vision and a shared commitment to national progress, we can move forward with determination,” Ikokwu said.

She also thanked supporters for their goodwill messages, calls and congratulatory notes following her appointment, expressing gratitude for the confidence and support shown to her.

Recall, NDC on Sunday unveiled its National Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, with the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, named chairman and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, appointed co-chairman.

The council also includes the party’s National Chairman and vice-presidential candidate, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, as vice-chairman, while its National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, will serve as co-vice-chairman.
