AWKA ANGLICAN CHURCH THREATENS TO PULL OUT FROM FOLD OVER ARCHBISHOP’S SUSPENSION

Amid the allegations and controversies surrounding Most Rev’d Alexander Ibezim, Archbishop of the Niger Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Awka Diocese, one fundamental question must be asked:

Can years of service and institutional achievements be overshadowed by allegations that are yet to be conclusively established?

Since assuming leadership of Awka Diocese in 2010, Archbishop Ibezim has overseen remarkable developments in education, healthcare, finance and spiritual infrastructure.

His notable achievements include Renaissance Modern Polytechnic, Mbaukwu; Millennium College of Nursing Sciences, Awka; the Faculty of Law building at Paul University; Archbishop Alexander Ibezim College of Education, Nibo-Nise; Millennium Microfinance Bank; Millennium Printing Press; Mount Zion International Retreat and Resource Centre; Queens Convent; and improvements to diocesan healthcare facilities.

He also spearheaded the development of Anglican Village at Ifite-Awka, including the Archbishop’s Palace and Archive Centre.

These are more than buildings; they represent investments in education, healthcare, employment, spiritual growth and the future of the Church. Recall that In 2022, it was this same Primate of All Nigeria, Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, that personally dedicated some of these landmark projects.

While legitimate concerns deserve investigation, allegations must never become convictions without credible evidence. Archbishop Ibezim’s record deserves an objective assessment, not a judgment driven by controversy, personal grievances or factional interests.

Yes, a leader must be held accountable where necessary, but he must also be given a fair hearing and recognised for his achievements.

Let the evidence speak, let justice prevail, and let the enduring contributions of Archbishop Ibezim to Awka Diocese receive the recognition they deserve.
