The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may restore its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and his running mate to the list of candidates for the 2027 election if their omission is found to be a mistake.
The party chairman in Kano, Hussaini Isah Mai Riga, said the NDC had escalated the matter to its national secretariat, which had taken it up with INEC.
He said the commission had promised to investigate the omission, while the party awaited its response.
“We have written to our National Secretariat and they have escalated it also to INEC. INEC said it will investigate that if it’s a mistake, of course, it will restore our candidates’ status.
So we are now waiting for their response,” Mai Riga said.
Gwarzo and his deputy were omitted from INEC’s final list of Kano governorship candidates, prompting concerns over the NDC’s participation in the 2027 governorship election.
The party is now relying on INEC’s investigation to clarify the candidates’ status, with its leadership awaiting the commission’s response before deciding on further steps.
