The Kwankwasiyya Movement has urged its members and supporters to remain calm following the absence of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Kano governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, from the final list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The movement expressed confidence that the matter could be resolved through available administrative and legal channels, urging the NDC to act swiftly to protect the candidates’ interests.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the movement’s spokesperson, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, said the development had generated concern among supporters but cautioned against speculation and the circulation of unverified information.
He said the movement’s understanding was that Gwarzo had registered with the NDC within the stipulated period and that it was not aware of any court case or judicial order cited as the basis for his omission.
The movement called on INEC to explain the circumstances surrounding the development and ensure that the matter received the necessary attention.
It also urged the NDC leadership and the candidates’ legal representatives to examine Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which the statement said provides a 14-day window for notifying INEC in writing, with an affidavit, when a nominated candidate’s name is missing.
The movement advised the party to assemble relevant documents, including evidence of registration, nomination, submission of particulars and acknowledgements, to support its case.
“If the records confirm this position and the omission is administrative, we expect the Commission to address the matter transparently and take any corrective action permitted by law,” the statement said.
It, however, cautioned that it would not prejudge INEC’s formal position or the outcome of any legal process, stressing the need for verifiable evidence and due process.
The movement urged supporters to continue their lawful political activities without confrontation, saying its leadership would monitor developments and communicate verified information as it became available.
It also called on INEC to clarify the circumstances surrounding the omission without unnecessary delay and urged the NDC to pursue all available remedies within the prescribed period.
The statement reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to constitutional democracy, electoral justice and the rule of law.
