The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused opposition parties of lacking the preparedness needed for the 2027 general elections, arguing that their failure to submit candidates’ details to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the original deadline reflects poor organisation and weak internal structures.
APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the inability of some opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and National Democratic Congress (NDC), to complete the nomination process on time raises doubts about their readiness to govern.
According to him, political parties that struggle to manage their internal affairs cannot be trusted with the responsibility of leading the country.
Although INEC extended the deadline for uploading presidential and National Assembly candidates from July 11 to midnight on July 14 following appeals from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), the APC insisted it had already completed the process before the initial deadline.
The ruling party confirmed that it successfully uploaded the names of its presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, vice-presidential candidate Kashim Shettima, and 469 National Assembly candidates through the commission’s nomination portal.
The submissions, which began on June 27, complied with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described the successful upload as an important milestone and urged party members to shift their attention to grassroots mobilisation and preparations for the election campaign.
Morka also criticised opposition parties for seeking an extension from INEC after previously accusing the commission of being biased in favour of the APC.
He described their actions as contradictory and accused them of spreading false allegations against the electoral body.
INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna explained that the deadline was extended to promote inclusiveness and allow political parties that encountered difficulties to complete the submission of candidates’ details within the legal framework.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced that it had successfully uploaded the names and particulars of its presidential and National Assembly candidates.
PDP Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed reaffirmed the party’s commitment to participating fully in the 2027 elections, while noting that details of its vice-presidential candidate would be announced later.
The NDC also expressed confidence that it would meet the new deadline, while reports indicated that the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) was racing against time after naming Adamu Bala as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
