While the Presidency maintains that the PFIPC is a fraudulent invention of suspect Adeniyi Adeyemi, official records reveal that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) formally processed and acted on the entity’s requests.
Correspondence dated November 21, 2024, signed by the Permanent Secretary in the SGF’s office, Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, shows that the government officially forwarded Adeyemi’s request for office accommodation to the EFCC.
The letter acknowledged the PFIPC as a legitimate requester of federal property, effectively granting it administrative recognition before the Presidency later disowned it.
This revelation has sparked national outrage. While Adeyemi currently faces trial for forgery, conspiracy, and impersonation, political pressure is mounting against the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The opposition, including the ADC and NDC, alongside a coalition of civil society organizations, is demanding an independent probe into how the agency secured budget allocations, recruited staff, and operated with apparent institutional backing.
The Presidency, through Senior Special Assistant Temitope Ajayi, has dismissed the accusations as a “con artist’s” attempt to escape justice by tarnishing the Chief of Staff’s reputation.
However, the discovery of internal government correspondence has fueled calls for Gbajabiamila to step aside to ensure a transparent investigation.
As the EFCC and other security agencies face scrutiny over their failure to detect the scheme sooner, the coalition of CSOs has issued a seven-day ultimatum for an independent investigation, warning of protests if the administration continues to rely on internal inquiries to address the deepening scandal.
