United States has designated a Nigerian national and several other individuals and entities across Europe, the Middle East and West Africa as terrorism financiers.

The individuals and entities were designated for allegedly serving as financial facilitators for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS.

This was contained in a statement issued by Thomas Pigott, spokesperson for the US Department of State.

Pigott said the action targeted three individuals and six entities accused of helping to move funds for ISIS operations globally.

According to the statement, the network spans France, Syria, Türkiye and Nigeria, and is involved in facilitating cross-border financial transfers for the group.

“Under the leadership of President Trump, the United States is dismantling ISIS’s ability to finance terrorism around the world. We are cutting off the financial lifelines that enable ISIS to fund attacks, support its regional affiliates, and threaten civilians, including religious minorities,” Pigott said.

Those designated, according to the statement, include a France-based facilitator who allegedly provided information on the use of explosives to ISIS supporters.

Also named is a Syria-based operator accused of using cryptocurrency to transfer funds for ISIS associates in multiple countries, including the United States, and a Nigeria-based money exchanger whose businesses allegedly served as conduits for ISIS financing.

The US said the measures are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt financing networks linked to ISIS.
