63 AMBASSADORS-DESIGNATE CLEARED BY HOST COUNTRIES – FG

Sixty-three Out Of The 69 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners appointed by President Bola Tinubu have received formal approval from their host countries, with only six still awaiting clearance

The approval process, known as agrément, is the consent granted by a receiving state to accept a nominated diplomat as an official envoy.

The latest batch of envoys cleared by their host nations were formally presented with their letters of credence on Monday, June 22, 2026, by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye.

Those presented include ambassadors and high commissioners-designate to Trinidad and Tobago, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea and Egypt.

According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the development underscores steady progress in concluding diplomatic postings for Nigeria’s newly appointed envoys, adding confidence that the remaining six will soon receive approval.

Although the ministry did not disclose the countries still pending approval, it confirmed that several of the cleared ambassadors have already reported to their duty stations.

The statement noted that out of the 69 ambassadorial appointments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, agrément has so far been secured for 63, including postings such as India and South Africa, while a number of envoys have begun their diplomatic assignments abroad.
