Former Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is now at the centre of a controversy over his reported endorsement of Dr. Nestor Ezeme, as the PDP candidate for Enugu North senatorial bye-senatorial slated for June 20, 2026.
Report had emerged on Monday, June 15, 2026, that Ugwuanyi had endorsed Dr. Ezeme for the senatorial bye-election.
According the report,
“the former governor made the declaration while addressing his constituents in Orba, Udenu Local Government, on Monday, June 15, 2026.
Speaking to the gathering, Rt. Hon. Ugwuanyi urged the people of Enugu North Senatorial Zone to vote beyond party lines and focus on candidates with proven competence, integrity, and a strong track record of service.
“He emphasized that the quality of leadership should take precedence over political party affiliation.
“The former governor also extolled the virtues of Dr. Barr. Nestor Ezeme, describing him as a capable, experienced, and dedicated leader who possesses the qualities required to effectively represent the people of Enugu North Senatorial District”.
However, immediately thereafter, another report emerged that Ugwuanyi had dismissed the claim of endorsing Dr. Ezeme, while affirming his support for Mr. Ikeje Asogwa, who is the APC senatorial candidate
According to the report, Ugwuanyi described it “as fake news orchestrated by political mischief makers seeking to gain undue advantage ahead of the poll scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.”
The statement further stated that Ugwuanyi “has no reason to support a candidate from another political party, stressing that his loyalty remains with the APC and all its candidates.
“As a committed member of the APC, I have no business supporting the candidate of another party. My support is firmly and unequivocally for all APC candidates, from the President down to the Councillor,”
It is now left for the reader to read between the lines and choose which account to take between the accounts.
