The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Tuesday suspended the collation of results from its presidential primary election conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Naija News reports that the collation was suspended around 11:50 p.m after results from 25 states had been announced.
The party said the collation of results and declaration of the eventual winner would resume on Wednesday (today).
The collation exercise, held at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, is expected to continue by 8 p.m. today.
Results announced so far show that Atiku Abubakar has established a clear lead over other aspirants for the ticket, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Meanwhile, both Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen had earlier rejected the conduct of the primaries, alleging widespread manipulation during the exercise.
Also, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and businessman, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, to channel their grievances over the party’s presidential primary through established party structures and statutory electoral processes.
Naija News reports that the party said the aspirants should avoid making public allegations while the collation of results from the nationwide direct primary was still ongoing.
The ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this on Tuesday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Abdullahi said there was currently no evidence to support claims that the presidential primary was rigged in favour of former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar.
He noted that since collation had not been concluded, it was too early to confirm or dismiss the allegations raised by some aspirants.
