Senator Ned Nwoko has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of betrayal after allegedly promising him an automatic ticket before he defected to the party.
The development comes after he recently lost the Delta North Senate return ticket to former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who also recently decamped.
Nwoko, who recently joined the APC from the PDP, expressed disappointment over the outcome, claiming that assurances were made to guarantee his return to the Senate under the party’s platform.
However, political calculations within the APC reportedly shifted after the entry of former Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, into the race.
“Legacy APC members have been shoved aside, and the new guys that came in took over practically everything.”
“I, myself and others were promised that there would be discussions on the new structure of the party, and we believed that there would be some power-sharing formula.”
“We had meetings with leaders of the party and we were assured that there would be some sharing formula, power-sharing formula.”
“We were even told, for example, that the state EXCO would be dissolved and that there would be nominations to enable the old APC to get a foothold into the government.”

“But that was never done.”

The senator described the situation as a betrayal of trust, insisting that the agreement reached before his defection was not honoured.
