The member of Kano State House of Assembly representing Gwale Constituency, Hon. Abdulmajid Isa Umar Mai Rigar Fata, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The lawmaker represents Gwale Local Government Area where Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf hails from.
He was formally received on Thursday, by former Kano State governor and NDC leader, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at his Maitama residence in Abuja.
Kwankwaso, who has remained a key figure in Kano’s political landscape, welcomed the new entrants, describing their decision as a boost to the party’s grassroots strength in the state.

Mai Rigar Fata was first elected on the seat in 2023 under the then Kwankwaso’s NNPP, before he later followed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to APC.
His defection comes after he failed to secure the APC ticket to return to the Assembly.
Among those who joined the party were Hon. Kabiru Sani Auwal Obi, a former Vice Chairman of Gwale Local Government, and Malam Mahadi Isa Umar.
The move is also coming hours after a Federal High Court ruling on Thursday opened defection doors earlier closed by INEC.
Reacting to the ruling, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, spokesman of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), had said mass exodus was looming in the APC.
