
As of May 20, 2026, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has not yet released its final list of governorship candidates. The party is still in the aspirant/form purchase and screening phase for the 2027 general elections.
Based on the latest reports, here are the states where people have publicly picked NDC governorship nomination forms or declared intent:
States with confirmed NDC governorship aspirants as of May 20, 2026:
- Bauchi State
- Ibrahim Kashim, immediate past Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, picked the NDC governorship expression of interest form. He defected from SDP to NDC to contest.
- Lagos State
- Funso Doherty, former ADC governorship candidate, picked the NDC governorship form for the 2027 Lagos election. He cited NDC as offering “a stronger path toward inclusive governance”.
- Benue State
- Dr Raymond Edoh, previously a governorship aspirant under ADC, defected to NDC with his political structure. He stated the move was to align with NDC’s direction.
- Delta State
- Ken Pela is being projected as the NDC candidate to challenge Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027. He came 3rd in the 2023 election. The report says NDC is banking on him, but it’s not confirmed he’s picked the form yet.
- Sokoto State
-Dr. Shamsudeen Aliyu Haido A medical Doctor. He has paid visits to His Excellency Peter Gregory Obi and Musa Kwankwanso. - Zamfara State
- Senator Kabir Garba Marafa The National Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate for Zamfara State is Senator Kabir Garba Marafa. He defected to the NDC and took over leadership of the party in the state, securing the assurance of the party’s governorship ticket.
- Adamawa State
- Aishatu Dairu Ahmed . The prominent Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship aspirant in Adamawa State is Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani). She is the former 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who officially defected to the NDC to pursue her gubernatorial ambition.
- Kaduna State
- Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim . Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim into the governorship race under the NDC further strengthens the growing momentum of the party, especially among citizens seeking credible leadership and fresh political direction ahead of 2027.
What’s happening now:
- The NDC set up a 17-member screening committee for governorship, senatorial, and House of Reps aspirants, chaired by Sen. Sam Egwu.
- Screening runs May 19-26, 2026.
- Form sales for governorship, NASS, and State Assembly positions remain open until midnight May 24, 2026.
