
Belusochukwu Enwere has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial race for Imo east ahead of the party primaries.
The APC had fixed May 18 for its senate primary election ahead of the 2027 poll.
Enwere announced his decision in a statement on Sunday, stating that he had stepped down after consulting with his family, supporters, political associates, and party leaders.
“After wide consultations with my family, supporters, political associates, and leaders of our great party, I have decided to step down from the contest for the Imo East Senatorial seat,” he said.
The APC aspirant said the decision was taken “in the interest of peace, unity, and the progress of our people”.
“This decision was not easy, but it was taken in the interest of peace, unity, and the progress of our people,” he said.
Enwere thanked President Bola Tinubu; Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo state; and the APC for the support he received during his campaign.
“I sincerely appreciate Mr President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; my Governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma and our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the opportunity and support given to me throughout this process,” he said.
He also appreciated his supporters for standing by him during the contest.
“To everyone who believed in my vision, encouraged me, and stood by me throughout this journey, I sincerely thank you all,” he said.
Enwere said he remains committed to the development of Imo east and urged his supporters to remain united.
“I remain committed to the development of our senatorial zone and will continue to contribute positively to the growth of our party and society,” he said.
“I urge all my supporters to remain calm, united, and continue supporting the collective interest of our people.”
Enwerem, 40, was national chairman of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN).
