
Ahead of Friday’s primary election of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for those jostling for tickets to contest House of Representatives, the Screening Panel set up by the party has cleared all aspirants in Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Enugu and Rivers states.
The party scheduled the shadow election for Friday, 15th May 2026.
According to the schedule released, the primary election for the Senate ticket is fixed for Monday, May 18, Houses of Assembly will hold on Wednesday, May 20, while the governorship shadow election is billed for Thursday, May 21 to be climaxed by the Presidential Primary on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
While the party is yet to make public the outcome of the screening carried out for the aspirants, it was gathered reliably last night that the committee defied pressure mounted by some political opponents and ensured that all the aspirants scaled through the process.
While the screening process concluded last Sunday, the National Working Committee (NWC) spent much of Tuesday and Wednesday deliberating on the findings.
A source within the party’s headquarters informed our correspondent that: “The screening committee fine-tuned their report and submitted it to the NWC ahead of a crucial meeting for ratification. The appeal committee members were actually on ground Wednesday to deliberate further on the process at the Treasures Suites, in Abuja.”
On whether any of the House of Representatives aspirants was disqualified, the senior party official said: “I can confirm to you that no aspirant was disqualified. I was part of the team that handled Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Enugu and Rivers states and I am sure that all the aspirants were cleared to go for the primary, though there was pressure from political opponents to disqualify some, but we stood our ground.”
Another impeccable source confirmed that Friday House Representatives shadow election will still be held in all the 360 federal constituencies across the country.
When asked, the source said:” We have done everything possible for the primary election to be held as scheduled.”
Meanwhile, it was learnt reliably last night that the serving governors of the ruling party have taken charge of the shadow election in their respective state.
Finding revealed that the governors will now determine which mode of primary is applicable and comfortable for the peaceful and generally acceptable candidates to fly the party’s tickets.
