Former Rivers State Governor and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has formally entered the 2027 presidential race under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following his purchase of ADC presidential nomination form.

The nomination form was obtained on his behalf on Friday by former Edo State Governor and prominent ADC chieftain, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, at the party national headquarters in Abuja, in what political observers have described as a major development capable of reshaping the opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi’s formal entry into the contest has already generated widespread political interest across the country, with many stakeholders describing him as one of the most experienced and nationally recognised figures within the opposition coalition.

A seasoned administrator and influential political mobiliser, Amaechi brings decades of governance experience spanning the legislative arm, State administration, and federal executive service. His political trajectory continues to command significant attention due to his strong grassroots networks, national visibility, and reputation for decisive leadership.

As Governor of Rivers State, Amaechi oversaw extensive infrastructural transformation, educational reforms, and urban development projects that positioned the State among Nigeria’s leading sub-national economies. His administration’s investments in road construction, healthcare, and model educational institutions remain notable aspects of his governance legacy.

At the federal level, his tenure as Minister of Transportation was marked by renewed focus on railway modernisation and transportation infrastructure. Strategic rail projects such as the Abuja-Kaduna and Lagos-Ibadan rail lines emerged as signature initiatives during his stewardship of the ministry.

Political analysts believe the decision by respected elder statesman John Odigie-Oyegun to personally obtain the nomination form on Amaechi’s behalf further signals growing confidence in his candidacy within influential political circles.

The development is also expected to strengthen the profile of the ADC as political consultations and alignments intensify ahead of the next electoral cycle.

With his formal entry into the race, Amaechi is increasingly being projected as one of the frontline presidential aspirants capable of mounting a formidable national campaign built on experience, political structure, and administrative capacity.

As the political atmosphere gradually gathers momentum toward 2027, the ADC presidential contest is expected to attract heightened national attention, with Amaechi’s candidacy already emerging as a major talking point within Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.
