I’M ALWAYS A LOYAL PARTY MEMBER, SAYS PETER OBI

OIP 27 3

Peter Obi, former Presidential Candidate of Labour Party, says he is a loyal member of any party.

Obi said this in a video, which is currently trending on social media.

The video started trending around the time when the prominent opposition figure confirmed his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“I am always a loyal member of any party. Yes, people will say he has left this party and that party. One day, those who are close to me will tell the story of how I left those parties. The truth is that every party I left, I was pushed to leave.

“This morning, someone asked me a question about something and I said, I don’t stay where there is a problem. I have never knowingly, whether it is a private or public quarrel with people. I don’t do it. I would rather be the loser. I will become a coward for peace than to stay where there is problem. If tomorrow people say, ‘We don’t want you here’, I will move on. That is not weakness; it’s a virtue. Just like people would say he is simple, it’s a virtue; people will say he is patient, it’s a virtue.

“You must be able to do things by tolerating others and if they don’t want you, don’t quarrel with them, move on. My commitment is for a better Nigeria. I believe we need to work together with other entities to be able to change the country.”

Obi was elected governor under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2006 and served two terms after a brief impeachment. He later defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under which he ran as Vice-Presidential candidate in 2019.

In 2022, he defected to Labour Party just few days to the presidential primary of the PDP, whose ticket he was seeking.

In March 2025, Obi joined the coalition seeking to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari. The coalition later adopted ADC, which is currently locked in crisis.

There are reports that Obi is on his way to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). While he has confirmed his exit from the ADC, Obi is yet to make known his next political party.
