SOWORE ACCUSES TINUBU OF AIMING TO INFLUENCE JUDICIARY WITH THE APPOINTMENT OF 11 NEW SUPREME COURT JUDGES

Former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has raised alarm regarding the 2027 general elections, accusing the current administration of actively laying the groundwork to compromise the electoral process through the judiciary.

Speaking on the political trajectory of the nation and the ongoing preparations by opposition parties, the outspoken activist directed the public’s attention to the recent restructuring of the apex court.

Sowore argued that the highly celebrated appointment of 11 new Justices to the Supreme Court by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not merely an administrative fulfillment, but a calculated political masterstroke.

While the government previously stated that the appointments were necessary to bring the Supreme Court to its full constitutional complement of 21 justices and ease the burden of pending cases, Sowore completely dismissed this narrative.

According to the activist, the appointments are a strategic move by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that the judicial arm of government is saturated with sympathetic figures ahead of the inevitable post-election legal battles in 2027.

”They are not waiting for election day; the 2027 election is already being secured in the courtrooms,” Sowore reportedly alleged during his assessment of the political landscape. He argued that because Nigerian elections frequently end up being decided by the Supreme Court rather than the ballot box, whoever controls the composition of the apex court ultimately controls the outcome of the election.

Sowore issued a stern warning to the leaders of the emerging “Third Force” mega-coalition, including figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rabiu Kwankwaso. He cautioned that no matter how much grassroots mobilization the opposition achieves, their efforts will be in vain if the final judicial arbiters are already aligned with the ruling establishment.

This bold allegation has sparked intense debates across social media. While supporters of the President defend the appointments as a long-overdue constitutional duty that has strengthened the justice system, opposition supporters and civil society groups are increasingly questioning the absolute independence of the judiciary as 2027 approaches.
