A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Pat Utomi, has dismissed claims that South-South leaders of the party endorsed the presidential bid of former Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Recall that a chieftain of the ADC, John Odigie-Oyegun, stated that South-South leaders of the party had decided to support Amaechi for the party’s presidential ticket.
Amaechi visited the ADC’s regional leaders to declare his intention to run for the presidency under the ADC’s platform in 2027.
“We were very pleased. We thanked him for the respect he has for the leaders of the zone for not letting loose in this zone, for setting up his own personal structures, for ensuring like every good son that he tells his people what he has in mind before he embarks on it.
“We are pleased and I cannot report that a unanimous decision was taken to give him all the support that he needs in pursuit of his ambition,” Oyegun said.
However, Sani, while speaking on 𝕏, shed some light on what transpired during the meeting of the South South leaders of the party.
Utomi wrote, “In Benin, ADC South South leaders met. Chibuike Amaechi announced interest in contesting for the Party’s presidential ticket.
“His request was received as is the tradition. No word of discussion took place on the matter. Representation of endorsement is inaccurate and disingenuous.”
Amaechi has since declared the interest in running for the presidency in 2027 on the platform of the ADC. He would face competition from the likes of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who have also made their aspirations public.
