The Country Director of ActionAid, Andrew Mamedu, has alleged that some of the result sheets uploaded by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the just-concluded Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council election were tampered with.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) clinched five Area Councils, including AMAC, Bwari, Kwali, Kuje, and Abaji, while the People Democratic Party (PDP) won in Gwagwalada Area Council.
Mamedu, during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Monday, stressed that some results uploaded were not visible.
He urged Nigerians to mount pressure on INEC to do better.
He said, “We saw a good number of result sheets tampered with. Some results uploaded were not visible.
“We are aware of some polling units where only seven people came out to vote. Polls closed by 2:30 pm but the BVAS upload of results sheets didn’t come in until late in the evening. Nigerians need to demand more from INEC.”
Meanwhile, the African Action Congress (AAC) has formally rejected the outcome of the recently concluded Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, describing the exercise as deeply flawed.
In a statement signed on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Rex I. Elanu, the party alleged widespread manipulation, voter suppression and institutional compromise.
“What occurred was not a democratic exercise but a coordinated assault on the will of the people,” the AAC said.
The party alleged that irregularities began before election day, particularly in the Kwali Area Council, where it claimed hundreds of voters were disenfranchised after the Independent National Electoral Commission failed to account for their Permanent Voter Cards.
