A former Chief Whip and member representing Dunukofia constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Lawrence Ezeudu, has dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The former lawmaker, who is a supporter of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi defected to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
His decision was made known in a letter addressed to the ADC Chairman of Ifitedunu Ward 2, Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state, Lawrence Akoba.
There was a brief ceremony at the lawmaker’s residence in Umanugwo village, Ifitedunu, on Sunday.
Explaining his decision to defect to the ADC in an interview with journalists, Ezeudo cited “deepening crisis and poor leadership within the APC at both local government and state levels.”
The former lawmaker said APC’s “endless crisis” in the state had hindered its effective political participation at the centre.
He said, “After careful reflection of activities, crisis, divisions and poor leadership of the APC at the local government and the state levels, I have decided to step away from the party to join the ADC and pursue other commitments that align with my personal and political convictions, in which I strongly believe I will get it through ADC.
“My defection to the ADC became necessary because that is the platform that will offer me the opportunity to serve the people of my constituency better, and also Anambra, as well as the South-East and Nigeria in general.
“I remain grateful for the opportunities and experiences I have gained while being a member of my former party.”
