I’M STILL WITH LABOUR PARTY, BUT NOBODY KNOWS TOMORROW, ABIA GOVERNOR, ALEX OTTI

Alex Otti, governor of Abia, says he remains a member of the Labour Party (LP), the platform that won him the seat in the 2023 elections.

Otti, speaking amid mass defections by opposition governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), added that “nobody knows tomorrow.”

The governor spoke on Thursday during his monthly media interaction, where he responded to questions on the leadership crisis within the LP.

“We are on the right side. We have maintained that Abure’s tenure has expired, and we went to court, which affirmed that,” Otti said.

“So, the court judgement confirmed that his tenure has expired and advised people to obey court decisions to save the courts from unnecessary troubles.

“We are not in an election period. If an election comes, we will still run under the Labour Party, but nobody knows tomorrow. But today, I am still in the Labour Party.”

Last week, the federal high court in Abuja ruled that the Nenadi Usman-led national caretaker committee of the LP is the authentic leadership of the party — the faction to which the Abia governor belongs.

Peter Lifu, the presiding judge, also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Usman-led wing of the party.

However, the rival faction led by Julius Abure said it would appeal the judgement.
