NIGERIAN CHRISTIANS OPPOSE SHARIA LAW OUT OF IGNORANCE — APC CHIEFTAIN

OIP 85

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC, Adebayo Shittu has said opposition to Sharia law by Nigerian Christians is not driven by fear, but rather what the former communications minister described as ignorance.

Speaking in an interview, Shittu who is contesting Oyo governorship seat said, “A lot of people oppose Sharia out of intolerance and ignorance. How does Sharia affect Christians if institutionalised? If there is Sharia in any community, no Christian can be forced to go under Sharia.”

Asked if he would introduce Sharia law in Oyo if he becomes the governor, Mr Shittu said, “Well, if the people ask for it. Even the constitution said it should be established wherever it is demanded. It is open because the constitution allows it.”

When reminded that the Yoruba might not support his governorship bid because of religious views, Shittu said, “You are talking like every Yoruba is a Christian. There are Yorubas who want Sharia.”
