A National Industrial Court in Abuja has ordered the striking workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to resume work immediately.
Justice Emmanuel Subilim on Tuesday ruled that the suspension of the strike was to prevent the crippling of government business in the territory if the strike was prolonged while the court was seized of the matter.
Citing Sectionb18(1)b of the Trade Dispute Act, the judge said workers cannot embark on an industrial action over a dispute that had already been referred to the National Industrial Court.
Following the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ‘s motion though his lawyer James Onoja (SAN) challenging the legality of the strike, Justice Subilim, last week, issued an interlocutory injunction halting the strike.
In the originating summons, the minister is contending that the strike was not in compliance with the Trade Disputes Act, adding that the Joint Unions Action Committee is not a registered trade union.
Meanwhile, the workers have vowed to stay at home until their demands were met on the welfare of the workers and the removal of Wike as minister.
