Activities at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) were brought to a halt on Monday morning as the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) commenced an indefinite strike over demands for improved working conditions.
As early as 7:00 a.m., the main gates of the FCTA/FCDA Secretariat were locked, preventing staff and visitors from accessing the complex. Our correspondent, who monitored the situation, reports that most agencies within the secretariat have been shut down.
The closure followed a circular issued late Sunday night by the JUAC leadership directing all workers to remain at home in strict compliance with the industrial action.
In the notice, titled “Code: Remain at Home,” JUAC appealed to staff to cooperate with the union to ensure the success of what it described as “agitations for better working conditions in the FCTA.”
The statement warned workers not to report for duty, noting that a JUAC task force had been deployed to enforce full compliance.
“By this notice, all staff are advised to stay at home as the strike action declared by JUAC commences on Monday, January 19, 2026. Do not come to work because the JUAC task force will be on the ground to ensure compliance,” the statement read in part.
The union leadership urged members to maintain the status quo until further notice.
Operations at the FCT Secretariat complex have been completely suspended, with JUAC restricting entry and no visible administrative activities taking place within the premises.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of the FCTA had not issued an official response to the strike. The development raises concerns about possible disruptions to essential administrative services in the Federal Capital Territory if the industrial action persists.
