‘FUBARA IS A MISTAKE, RIVERS STATE HAS NEVER HAD IT THIS BAD’ – SPEAKER AMAEWHULE

OIP 75

The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, has described Governor Siminalayi Fubara as a mistake, saying that the rich oil state had never experienced the ongoing political situation.

Amaewhule, speaking during plenary on Thursday, stated that Fubara’s administration, along with his Deputy, Ngozi Nma Odu, is a threat to democratic governance in the state.

While accusing Fubara of deliberately undermining constitutional governance and legislative authority, the Speaker said, “Fubara is a mistake, Rivers State has never had it this bad.”

Amaewhule lamented that Rivers State is yet to present its 2026 Appropriation Bill, describing the situation as unprecedented and embarrassing.

According to him, Rivers State is the only state in Nigeria and possibly across West Africa that has failed to present a budget for the fiscal year at the moment.

“It is unbelievable that in the 21st century, a state like Rivers has neither presented nor passed an appropriation bill for 2026,” stressing that he would ensure that a formal letter detailing the Assembly’s concerns is forwarded to Governor Fubara and his Deputy within seven days.

The Speaker further accused Governor Fubara of openly boasting to his supporters that the House of Assembly is powerless, allegedly referring to lawmakers as “toothless bulldogs” who cannot enforce the constitution.

Amaewhule described the ongoing situation as “a sad commentary for Nigeria’s democracy,” insisting that the governor and his deputy have shown disregard for due process and democratic norms.

He warned that continued failure to respect constitutional responsibilities could have grave consequences for governance in the state.
