A prominent Catholic cleric and author, Deacon Nick Donnelly has thrown his weight behind alleged plans by the United States to target controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi over alleged terrorism links.

Gumi had recently stated that he was secretly informed by security sources that his name had been listed among individuals allegedly marked for elimination as Boko Haram figures.

Gumi made the claim while addressing his congregation in a trending video, saying he received an early-morning phone call from an unnamed source in Abuja who informed him that his name had come up during a national security meeting.

“They called me from Abuja and told me there was a security meeting. They said I have been marked, that I will be eliminated. And who are Boko Haram?” Gumi queried.

Reacting to the claims via X, Deacon Donnelly Gumi who had earlier called for Gumi’s arrest over alleged support for genocidal attacks against Nigerian Christians against said Gumi has in a hard way learnt that there are consequences for being a terrorist leader.

In the post, the cleric advocated Gumi’s trial at the International Criminal Court ICC or a US court saying it is imperative that Gumi is stopped leading the Islamist genocide of Christians.

Deacon Nick Donnelly, a UK-based Catholic cleric, has been vocal in his call for the arrest and prosecution of Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a Nigerian Islamic cleric, over his comments on US Christmas airstrikes targeting Islamist terrorists in Sokoto State.

Donnelly accused Gumi of referring to the terrorists as “our warriors” and urged Bola Ahmed Tinubu to publicly condemn Gumi’s remarks, warning that failure to do so would imply complicity in Gumi’s alleged crimes.
