Controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that his name was secretly placed on a list of individuals marked for elimination alongside Boko Haram members, citing information he said came from security sources in Abuja.
Speaking to his congregation, Gumi said he received an early morning call from an undisclosed contact who claimed details of the plan emerged during a high-level security meeting.
“They called me from Abuja and said I have been marked for elimination. And who are Boko Haram?” he said, adding that his caller warned that his name was mentioned among those allegedly targeted.
Gumi also accused the United States of contributing to the rise and persistence of Boko Haram, questioning international involvement in Nigeria’s internal security challenges.
“Even the Americans said they came to fight terrorists. So who are the terrorists?” he added, alleging that foreign actors were fueling unrest.
The cleric further argued that Nigeria’s insecurity has been worsened by misinformation, divisive narratives and leadership failures, claiming that political and religious elites remained silent while the nation slid deeper into crisis.
He maintained that no sovereign country should tolerate external interference that pits its citizens against one another.
“Which country would accept something that divides its own people?” he asked, lamenting what he described as oppression, hardship and erosion of citizens’ rights.
Gumi warned that fear, silence and distrust continue to drag Nigeria backward, urging leaders and religious figures to engage more openly to prevent further deterioration.
