The Secretary-General is deeply alarmed by the recent escalation in Venezuela, culminating with today’s United States military action in the country, which has potential worrying implications for the region.

Independently of the situation in Venezuela, these developments constitute a dangerous precedent. The Secretary-General continues to emphasize the importance of full respect – by all – of international law, including the UN Charter. He’s deeply concerned that the rules of international law have not been respected.

The Secretary-General calls on all actors in Venezuela to engage in inclusive dialogue, in full respect of human rights and the rule of law.
Antonio Guteres
United Nations Secretary-General

Kosovo stands firmly with the United States and President @realDonaldTrump in support of its actions against Venezuela’s narco-terror regime.

President Trump stood with the people of Venezuela and stood up to Maduro’s narco-state — protecting America and the rest of the world from cartels and organized crime. This is what strength and American leadership look like.

The Venezuelan people deserve freedom, democracy, and a future governed by law, not fear. Narco-terrorism and authoritarian rule threaten peace far beyond national borders.

Kosovo understands the impact of American resolve — our own liberation is a testament to it. At a moment when the U.S. is confronting tyranny in Venezuela, we should all reinforce this stance, because the transatlantic community is strongest when united behind American leadership and shared values. When America leads, we proudly stand together — because our collective freedom depends on it.

Vjosa Osmani
President, Republic of Kosovo

Cuba denounces and demands an URGENT reaction from the international community against the criminal US attack on #Venezuela. Our #ZoneOfPeace is being brutally assaulted. State terrorism against the brave Venezuelan people and against Our America.

President, Republic of Cuba

The Government of the Republic of Colombia observes with deep concern the reports of explosions and unusual aerial activity recorded in recent hours in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as well as the resulting escalation of tension in the region.

Colombia reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, particularly respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States, the prohibition of the use or threat of force, and the peaceful settlement of international disputes. In this regard, the Colombian Government rejects any unilateral military action that could worsen the situation or endanger the civilian population.

The country adopts a position aimed at preserving regional peace and urgently calls for de-escalation, urging all parties involved to refrain from actions that deepen the confrontation and to prioritize dialogue and diplomatic channels.

As a preventative measure, the National Government has implemented steps to protect the civilian population, preserve stability on the Colombian-Venezuelan border, and promptly address any potential humanitarian or migration needs, in coordination with local authorities and relevant agencies.

The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs must maintain open diplomatic channels with the governments involved and will promote, in the appropriate multilateral and regional forums, initiatives aimed at the objective verification of the facts and the preservation of regional peace and security.

The Republic of Colombia reiterates its conviction that peace, respect for international law, and the protection of life and human dignity must prevail over any form of armed conflict.

May Bolívar protect the Venezuelan people and the people of Latin America.

Gustav Petro
President, Republic of Colombia

The Government of Mexico strongly condemns and rejects the military actions carried out unilaterally in recent hours by the armed forces of the United States of America against targets in the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in clear violation of Article 2 of the Charter of the United Nations (UN).

Based on its foreign policy principles and its commitment to peace, Mexico urgently calls for respect for international law, as well as the principles and purposes of the UN Charter, and for an end to all acts of aggression against the Venezuelan government and people.

Latin America and the Caribbean is a zone of peace, built on the foundation of mutual respect, the peaceful settlement of disputes, and the prohibition of the use and threat of force. Therefore, any military action seriously jeopardizes regional stability.

Mexico emphatically reiterates that dialogue and negotiation are the only legitimate and effective means to resolve existing differences, and therefore reaffirms its willingness to support any effort to facilitate dialogue, mediate, or provide accompaniment that contributes to preserving regional peace and preventing confrontation.

It also urges the United Nations to act immediately to contribute to de-escalating tensions, facilitate dialogue, and create conditions that allow for a peaceful, sustainable solution in accordance with international law.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Embassy of Mexico in Venezuela, will maintain constant communication with Mexican citizens residing in that country to assist them in any way necessary. These individuals are advised to remain attentive to information released in the coming hours and to contact the following emergency telephone numbers and channels:

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo
President, Republic of Mexico

Earlier this morning, Saturday 3rd January 2026, the United States commenced military operations within the territory of Venezuela.
Trinidad and Tobago is NOT a participant in any of these ongoing military operations.
Trinidad and Tobago continues to maintain peaceful relations with the people of Venezuela.
Kamla Persad-Bissessar
Prime Minister, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

The bombings in Venezuelan territory and the capture of her president crosses an unacceptable line. These represent a very serious challenge to the sovereignty of Venezuela and, moreover, an extremely dangerous precedent for the entire international community.

Attacking countries, in flagrant violation of international law, is the first step to a world of violence, chaos and instability, where the strongest reading prevails over multilateralism.

The condemnation of the use of force is consistent with the position that Brazil is always adopted in recent situations in other countries and regions.

Now is the worst moment of interference in the politics of Latin America and the Caribbean and efforts to preserve the region as a zone of peace.

The international community, through the United Nations Organization, needs to respond vigorously to this episode. Brazil condemns these actions and continues to be available to promote through dialogue and cooperation.

Inacio Lula DA Silva
President, Republic of Brazil

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, is closely following the situation in Venezuela, and remains in constant contact with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, also in order to gather information regarding compatriots

In view of the confirmed reports about Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse being in the United States, we strongly urge the US leadership to reconsider their position and release the legitimately elected president of a sovereign country and his spouse.

We highlight the need to create conditions for resolving any existing issues between the United States and Venezuela through dialogue.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation

As the Government of Chile, we express our concern and condemnation of the United States’ military actions in Venezuela and call for a peaceful resolution to the serious crisis affecting the country.

Chile reaffirms its commitment to fundamental principles of international law, such as the prohibition of the use of force, non-intervention, the peaceful settlement of international disputes, and the territorial integrity of states.

The Venezuelan crisis must be resolved through dialogue and the support of multilateralism, not through violence or foreign interference.

Gabriel Boric Font
President, Republic of Chile

China is deeply shocked by and strongly condemns the U.S.’s blatant use of force against a sovereign state and action against its president.

Such hegemonic acts of the U.S. seriously violate international law and Venezuela’s sovereignty, and threaten peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean region. China firmly opposes it.

We call on the U.S. to abide by international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and stop violating other countries’ sovereignty and security.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peoples Republic of China

The Government of Paraguay has always maintained an unwavering commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the full respect for human rights in Venezuela, and for this reason, it has long warned about the unsustainable situation of the illegitimate, rapacious, and dictatorial regime of Nicolás Maduro, which has caused so much harm to that noble people.

His fall can only be good news.

In these decisive hours, we urge that democratic means and the well-being of Venezuelans be prioritized above all else.

Furthermore, as a country that has successfully transitioned from an authoritarian regime to a full and robust democracy, Paraguay offers the international community its cooperation and experience for regime change toward one that fully respects freedoms and rights.

We stand with the Venezuelan people, who deserve to live better days in democracy, freedom, and peace.

Santiago Pena
President, Republic of Paraguay

The Government of the Republic of South Africa notes with grave concern the recent developments, which were confirmed by the United States that the USA has conducted “a large-scale military strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicholas Maduro, who has been captured along with his wife and flown out of the country”.

South Africa views these actions as a manifest violation of the Charter of the United Nations, which mandates that all Member States refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. Furthermore, the Charter does not authorise external military intervention in matters that are essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of a sovereign nation.

History has repeatedly demonstrated that military invasions against sovereign states yield only instability and deepening crisis. Unlawful, unilateral force of this nature undermines the stability of the international order and the principle of equality among nations.

South Africa calls on UN Security, the body mandated to maintain international peace and security, to urgently convene to address this situation.

Ministry of International Relations
Republic of South Africa

My government declared from the beginning that Maduro committed electoral fraud—therefore, he was never a legitimate president and must now answer for his crimes in Venezuela and abroad. May God bless the brave Venezuelan people and help them recover the democracy and rule of law that the deposed dictator Maduro stole from them. Let us celebrate this new opportunity for our Venezuelan brothers and sisters.

President, Republic of Costa Rica

Iran’s Foreign Ministry’s statement on #USA military aggression against #Venezuela

The Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the US military attack on Venezuela and the blatant violation of the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The US military attack on Venezuela constitutes a clear violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and the basic rules of international law, particularly Article 2(4) of the Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force, and fully qualifies as an “act of aggression.”

It must be explicitly and immediately condemned by the UN and by all states that are committed to the rule of law, as well as to international peace and security.

The US military aggression against an independent state that is a member of the UN represents a grave breach of regional and international peace and security. Its consequences affect the entire international system and will further expose the UN Charter-based order to erosion and destruction.

While recalling Venezuela’s inherent right to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and right to self-determination, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes the legal and moral responsibility of all states and international organizations, particularly the UN and its Security Council, to immediately halt the United States’ unlawful aggression against Venezuela.

It also stresses the necessity of taking appropriate measures to hold accountable the planners and perpetrators of crimes committed in the course of this military aggression.

In light of the well-known and serious international crisis, the Uruguayan government, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has already expressed its position: rejection of military intervention and a continued pursuit of a peaceful solution to the Venezuelan crisis. The ends cannot justify the means. We are closely monitoring developments, and I have therefore decided to convene the Cabinet tomorrow.

Yamanda Orsi

To all the Chavista narco-criminals, your time is coming. Your structure will finally collapse across the continent.

In light of the events that unfolded this morning in Venezuela, my government reiterates its support for the democratic process and for respecting the legitimate wishes of the Venezuelan people, expressed decisively at the ballot box, where Mr. Edmundo González was elected. Panama will always stand in solidarity with peace and with an orderly and legitimate transition process.

Jose Raul Mulino
President, Republic of Panama

By seizing power from the Venezuelan people and depriving them of their fundamental freedoms, Nicolás Maduro has gravely violated their dignity and their right to self-determination. France has consistently worked, notably through its mediation efforts, to uphold the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people, whose voice must prevail.

The military operation that led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro contravenes the principle of non-use of force, which underpins international law. France reiterates that no lasting political solution can be imposed from the outside and that sovereign peoples alone decide their own future.

The increasing violations of this principle by nations entrusted with the primary responsibility of being permanent members of the United Nations Security Council will have serious consequences for global security, sparing no one. Having learned from history, France is preparing for this, but cannot accept it. She reiterates her commitment to the Charter of the United Nations, which must continue to guide the international action of States, always and everywhere.

Jean-Noel Barrot
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of France

The Indonesian government urges Indonesian citizens to remain calm, increase vigilance, and maintain communication with the Indonesian Embassy in Caracas.

Indonesia emphasizes the importance of respecting international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
