Bola Tinubu’s actions in Benin Republic in response to a request from the Beninese government to help quell a coup attempt have been widely criticized, following reports that the former Lagos State authorized an attack on the coup plotters in the West Africa nation.
Parallel Facts reports that explosions and sporadic gunfire were reported on Sunday morning at Tignon Barracks, located about six kilometres from Cotonou Airport in Benin, after soldiers involved in an attempted coup allegedly barricaded themselves inside the military facility, Casus Belli, an investigator, has revealed.
Nigerian Air Force fighter jets were deployed to dislodge the coup plotters from the National TV station and a military camp, and Nigerian ground forces were also deployed for missions approved by the Beninese Command Authority.
While condemnations have followed Tinubu’s action and authorization of attack on another sovereign nation, an American political commentator and influencer, Jackson Hinkle questioned Tinubu’s misplacement of priorities saying he should have bombed the terrorists running riot in his country and not revolutionaries in Benin Republic.
Recall that Parallel Facts had on Sunday reported that Investigative journalist David Hundeyin revealed that Nigerian Army formations at the Ojo Barracks in Lagos were preparing to stage an illegal military invasion into the Republic of Benin as early as Sunday night.
Hundeyin, in a post shared on his X handle, warned that the development could escalate tensions in West Africa at a time when the region is already dealing with growing security challenges.
