ENUGU GOVERNOR SET TO JOIN APC, MEETS RULING PARTY’S NEW STATE CHAIRMAN

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State is set to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the dissolution of the party’s structure in the state by the National Working Committee (NWC).

In a major shake-up announced on Thursday, the APC national leadership appointed Dr Ben Nwoye as the new caretaker chairman of the party in Enugu.

Nwoye met with Governor Mbah earlier today in what insiders described as a “strategic reconciliation and realignment meeting” ahead of the governor’s formal defection to the ruling party.

The development follows the resignation of Uche Nnaji, former minister of science and technology, whose exit is believed to have cleared the last major obstacle to Mbah’s entry into the APC.

Nnaji, who was the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, had reportedly resisted efforts to integrate Mbah into the APC fold.

His resignation, which came after a certificate scandal, is seen as paving the way for a complete restructuring of the party’s leadership in the state.

With the dissolution of the state executive committee and Nwoye’s appointment, Governor Mbah is now expected to assume the role of APC leader in Enugu.

A formal declaration event is expected in the coming days.
