The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says Nigeria is staggering under the failures of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing a press conference on the occasion of the 65th Independence anniversary of the country, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, said Nigerians were faced with “acute convergence of crises: economic hardship, spiraling insecurity, and a growing
loss of public faith in government.”
He said though the ADC is joining other Nigerians in reflecting, and celebrating how the country has come, “we must still confront a sobering reality.”
He recalled that on October first the founding fathers took the bold step of reclaiming the destiny of the country and “placing in our hands the solemn responsibility of building a prosperous, united, and self-reliant Nigeria. Since then, through civil war, military rule, democratic transitions, economic booms and downturns, the Nigerian spirit has endured.
“That spirit- resilient, creative, and unyielding is what binds us today. We salute the Nigerian people – workers, entrepreneurs, farmers, educators, young people, and professionals – who have kept faith with the Nigerian dream, even when that dream seems distant like under this administration.”
According to him, ” At 65, our nation is staggering under the failures of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC). We face an acute convergence of crises: economic hardship, spiraling insecurity, and a growing loss of public faith in government.”
Abdullahi argued that the promise of “renewed hope” that Tinubu and his APC campaigned on has given way to widespread disillusionment, as the “reforms undertaken by his administration have destabilized tens of millions across the country by compounding inflation, crushing our individual purchasing power, and triggering a wave of social pain that the government has failed to cushion.”
While asking Nigerians to rise up, he said, “Insecurity remains perhaps the most damning indictment of the APC’s misgovemance. Despite years of propaganda about restoring peace, Nigeria continues to bleed across multiple fronts. Boko Haram and ISWAP maintain footholds in the North, banditry and kidnappings terrorize the Northwest, and parts of North central, which was once safe, continues to buckle under the wave of insecurity that has now made its way all the way to our Federal Capital.”
