President Bola Tinubu on Friday described the economic hardship which followed some of his reforms as a pain from an economic surgery.
He told Nigerians that the nation’s economy is recovering from crisis and thanked them for perseverance.
Tinubu spoke at Mapo Hall in Ibadan Oyo State during the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
He said, “To many of you here present, today I’m honoured and I’m very proud to give you the cheering news that economy has turned the corner, there’s a bright light at the end of the tunnel.
“Your suffering is a pain, a pain of a painful surgery but it is now returned to the moment of growth and prosperity that’s awaiting us ahead. Thank you for your perseverance. Thank you for your endurance and thank you for your understanding.”
Tinubu had arrived at the venue alongside Governor Seyi Makinde at exactly 2:28pm.
In his entourage were Governors of Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and some members of the Federal Executive Council.
The monarch had been crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan before the arrival of the president
Ladoja arrived Mapo Hall, venue of the historic event, wearing a white crown bestowed on him at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of the state.
Before then, he had received the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan.
Ladoja succeeds late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025.
He died after reigning for one year.
Ladoja ascended the throne on Friday, nearly three months Oba Olakulehin’s demise.
Among those who attended the events were former governors, first-class monarchs, Senators, House of Representatives members and state lawmakers across the country.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, Soun of Ogbomosho, Oba Ghandi Adeoye; Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale and Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, were among traditional rulers in attendance.
