Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has broken his silence after a false report of his death surfaced online, strongly refuting the claims and assuring fans that he is alive, healthy, and looking forward to living long enough to see his grandchildren.
He emphasized this further by saying, “I am here to carry my grandchildren, and I must carry them in good health when my children are ready.”
The actor’s reaction to the death hoax was direct and firm:
Agu condemned the anonymous blogger who posted a “Rest in Peace” message about him, accusing the person of spreading the false news solely to chase likes, views, and comments.
He described the post as “diabolical news” and declared that those wishing him dead would be buried before him.
Agu revealed that if the rumor had come from a well-known blogger, he would have pursued legal action for defamation, cyber harassment, and damages to his business and reputation. However, he said he would not sue this particular individual, whom he described as a “poor blogger struggling for likes and views.”
The actor called on his fans and family to completely disregard the report and to report the page spreading the misinformation.
He thanked everyone who reached out to him and his family after hearing the false news, showing appreciation for their concern and support.
Agu stressed that he is in “perfect good health” and not sick in any way, contrary to the false claims that had also circulated alongside the death hoax.
Meanwhile, many Nigerians on social media have condemned the blogger’s actions. Some have urged the veteran actor to go ahead and sue the blogger, arguing that such false reports made just to generate traffic—especially on platforms like Facebook—should be punished to serve as a deterrent to others.
