The African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, has mocked President Bola Tinubu over his government’s fresh plan to secure a $1.75 billion loan from the World Bank.

In a post shared on X on Tuesday, Abdullahi recalled that Tinubu had recently declared that Nigeria had met its revenue target and would no longer need to borrow.

“But no sooner had you left the country than some overzealous official announced your government’s plans to borrow another $1.75 billion from the World Bank, thereby making you look like a liar,” Abdullahi wrote.

He also criticised Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who initially spoke against the loans but later backtracked.

“Obviously, he fears you more than he fears for his conscience,” the ADC spokesperson added.

Abdullahi ended his post with a sarcastic remark directed at the President: “Sorry to disturb you, Sir. Continue to enjoy your well-deserved holidays.”

Recall that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Monday while presenting a speech at the West Africa Association of Public Accounts Committees conference, expressed concerns that Nigeria’s debt had reached a critical point and called for urgent reforms in borrowing practices and oversight.
