The trending hashtags “Trump is Dead” and “Trump Died” gathered tens of thousands of posts, while phrases like “Where is Trump” also dominated discussions.
The rumours gained ground amid a quiet weekend at the White House.
The president’s public schedule listed no events for Saturday or Sunday, only noting in-town press pool calls at 8:00 AM EDT.
With Trump not seen in public since Wednesday, speculation increased, though no reliable news outlet has confirmed any such report.
Posts on X showed a mix of alarm, satire, and false claims. Some users pointed to the absence of press sightings, while others spread manipulated videos linking the rumours to a supposed prediction from The Simpsons.
The videos, however, have been discredited as altered or misleading.
Trump recently signed executive orders on cashless bail and flag-burning and has been engaged in legal disputes, including efforts to dismiss Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.
