JONATHAN NOW READY TO CONTEST, MEET WITH NORTHERN LEADERS – REPORT

Reports have emerged, indicating former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s readiness to contest the 2027 presidential election.

There has been speculation about Jonathan’s possible comeback following moves by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

A close ally of the Bayelsa-born politician confirmed to Vanguard on Wednesday that Jonathan, a member of PDP has allegedly agreed to run for the 2027 presidential election.

The source told Vanguard that the plan to draft Jonathan into contesting on PDP’s platform had gone far, and that he had accepted to run.

He added that the former president was going into the race to find ways of addressing Nigeria’s rising poverty, hardship and the general suffering that had gripped the citizenry since the All Progressives Congress, APC took over power in 2015.

The source also claimed that Jonathan had already met behind the scene with some top political leaders within and outside the PDP particularly in the north to consult them and seek their support for the 2027 presidential race.

According to the politician, Jonathan met with former Nigerian military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, retd., last weekend in his Hilltop Mansion in Minna, Niger State, and briefed him on his desire to run for one term in 2027.

Meanwhile, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed that the party has been making moves to bring Jonathan back.

“Many Nigerians have come to realise the mistake they made in not re-electing Dr. Jonathan. They now acknowledge his achievements and are even apologising, pleading with him to return and rescue the country,” Abdullahi said.
