I AM NOT JOINING PDP – PETER OBI

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has addressed rumours suggesting that he is planning to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

The clarification was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Ibrahim Umar of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR).

The former Anambra State governor has labelled as fake a statement allegedly issued in his name, which denied a defection to the PDP and reaffirmed commitment to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has been made aware of a purported statement from our principal, Peter Obi, denying joining the Peoples Democratic Party and reaffirming his commitment to the African Democratic Congress,” the statement read.

Obi noted that he remains focused on his vision for a new Nigeria and has not made any such declaration regarding party allegiance.

“Peter Obi has been unequivocal in his position in the ongoing coalition and doesn’t need anyone to put words into his mouth,” the statement continued. “He would not accept anybody attributing a statement to him just to satisfy their devious agenda.”

The media office further urged the public to disregard any message not directly issued from Peter Obi’s verified media channels, stating, “Only statements from his official handle or this media office should be considered authentic.”

Recall that former Borno State Governor and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, claimed in a recent television interview that Obi was preparing to rejoin the PDP to contest the 2027 presidential election.

“As far as this politics is concerned, they (ADC) don’t exist. The information available to me is that any moment from now, Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP,” Sheriff stated during an appearance on Channels Television.
